Bubenheim lies on both banks of the Ammelbach stream in the Violental valley at an altitude of 200 m above sea level. The village, which has around 420 inhabitants and was a farming and working village just a few decades ago, no longer plays a significant role in agriculture.

The majority of the population make their living as commuters in the surrounding area.

Wine is grown on a small scale in Bubenheim on the slopes of the Violental. As in the other wine-growing villages of the municipality, the 8 ha local vineyard "Hahnenkamm" is part of the large vineyard "Schnepfenpflug vom Zellertal".

Bubenheim has an inner-German partnership with the Thuringian municipality of Oberbösa. The recently extensively renovated village hall forms the center of village life.
